Toronto West Athletics (TWA) was founded in January 2016 by a group of highly motivated and engaged coaches, parents, and runners. Our club is a provincially incorporated, not-for-profit organization that is operated 100% by volunteers.
We are a mid to long distance running club with the mission to one day produce an Olympic champion. The coaches at TWA are all former competitive runners and between them have many decades of coaching experience. Our vision is to provide a coaching and training environment to help aspiring distance runners achieve their full potential. We aim to foster a love of running from any age that will remain with the athlete all their life. Good sportsmanship is a central element of competitive running.
Training is a collaboration between athletes and coaches. With a dedication to regular and consistent training all athletes have the potential to improve and achieve their goals. Our club offers a range of training programs, starting with our elementary program suitable for children entering Grade 3 all the way to a university program for highly competitive athletes as well as a Masters group. We have coaches dedicated to specific programs but they all work as a team in the best interests of the athletes, read more about our coaches – Meet the Coaches.
TWA athletes compete on a world scale. Our top athletes are National Champions. They have represented Canada at the World Junior Track and Field, PanAm Junior Track and Field, and North America Central America Caribbean Association Junior Cross-country Championships. Our high school athletes are offered scholarships and selected for teams at Canadian and American universities.
Where to we train?
The primary training location is Centennial Park and surrounding areas. During indoor track season (January – March) high school athletes may train once or twice per week at the Toronto Track Track & Field Center, York University.
