OFSAA 2019 RECAP

Steeple chase OFSAA

What a weekend! Toronto West Athletes competed well each and every session at OFSAA.

It started Thursday with the steeplechase heats. Ben and Daniel each qualified for the final, with Ben lowering Daniel’s club record along the way.

Next up, the 1500m heats saw Sofia in Novice, Sophia in junior, and Ivan in Senior all advance to the final. Ivan was in a particularly loaded heat and had to run perfectly to advance, which he did with a new personal best of 4:01. Grace and Jose also competed well in their heats, but did not advance.

On Friday, the steeplechase final saw Ben and Daniel smash their best times, finishing 5th and 6th.

In the Jr girls 1500 final Sophia Lucki smashed her own club record and the 4:40 barrier, running 4:36 for 3rd place.

(Last week I mentioned how strong the Metro and South Regions are. In this Jr Girls 1500, Toronto girls went 2,3,4,5!)

But Saturday was the best of all. Lauren Jacobs started us off with a great run in the Sr 800 to qualify for the final. Justin Jelaca also ran a new personal best in the Jr boys 800 to make the final. Then Kayla Sanderson Kirby shocked the field with a huge personal best to qualify for the Novice final.

Kayla then followed that up in the final with a great 3rd place finish and the bronze medal.

Daniel and Ben and Jose were up next in the senior boys 3k final, all 3 boys running new personal bests and competing very well in the one of the toughest events at OFSAA.

And we saved the best for last! Sofia Bowe and Grace Cousineau ran out of their minds in the Novice girls 3000m, with Sofia earning the bronze medal in the spectacular time of 10:26 and Grace also running a great time in placing 6th.

So we competed from 400m to 3000m, with athletes in all 3 age categories performing well. The only thing missing was a senior medal, and that will be a target for next year.

Congratulations to all athletes, but we still have lots of races left this year. Continue reading OFSAA 2019 RECAP

Regionals Recap – OFSAA Qualifying

Competing in the Metro Toronto Regional and the South Regional (Mississauga all the way down to Niagara) these regionals contain huge populations and therefore finishing in the top 4 is a great accomplishment.

Toronto West athletes had excellent results at both regionals.
