Athletics Ontario Youth/Senior Recap

Athletics Ontario indoor meet

The club had a great weekend at York over two days with several great results.
Highlight had to be Roman Mironov’s win in the 2000m at the Ontario-Quebec midget dual meet run in conjunction with AO.
Roman’s time was a new provincial record, but he needed it as two other runners were breathing down his neck!

The Provincial dual meet had some drama as it turned out to be a tie, with Sophia having to do some double duty and enter the race walk for a valuable point!

In the 1500s, Ben Miske had a very solid run and big PR in 4:21, and in the Senior 1500, Triphon unleashed a world class last 400 of 55 seconds to win a tactical battle in 3:58.

On Sunday, the day started off with great runs from Stephen and Ben in section 2 of the 3k, as they traded leads all the way before Ben pulled out the win with another PR of 9:27.

Triphon continued his education at 3k with a big PR of 8:32 and second place, but the most satisfying race of the day was Peter’s huge breakthrough and 15 second PR, ending up with 5th place in a time of 8:43. This was a long time coming and well deserved!

In the 800s, Sophia and Lauren had good runs and gained valuable racing experience, while in the boys’800 Aiden, Ivan and Joseph raced very well in the second fastest section.

Once again, the club’s presence was very noticeable as our athletes demonstrated their continuing improvement.

We will do it all again in two weeks, and add in our Bantam group for AO Bantam, Midget and JR. Championships.

The track season kicked off last weekend with the AO Prep meet and Relay championship at York. Several club members got their season started including the midget boys winning the 4×800 title. Roman Mironov and Sophia Lucki ran strong 2km races for 1st and 3rd against some of the best midget athletes in the province.

This week, Toronto West Athletes competed in multiple venues with great results.

Starting with our senior athletes; Alex Lucki won the Vanderbilt Invitational mile in Tennessee while competing for Maryland. In Ottawa, new member Connor Darlington won the 3k in 8:30.
In London, Josh McGillivray was 2nd in the 1km in 2:31, and Triphon worked on his strength by running the 3k in 8:50.

In Toronto, at U of T, the high school groups competed in the Fred Foot memorial, competing against many university athletes as well as the other clubs.

Highlight of the day was Aiden Webster’s huge 600m midget club record in 1:27.
Peter finally cracked the 9:00 barrier with 8:58 in the 3k.
Sophia Lucki ran a very strong first 1500 in 5:01
New member Ivan Mihelec ran a great 1km in 2:44 and is taking aim at Peter’s record of 2:41.

And we had two nice section wins. Ben Miske held off Andrew Batek as both kicked nicely in the 1500, both running 4:29. In an earlier section, Roman ran a personal best of 4:24!

And finally, Joseph Falzata unleashed a monster kick to pass one of U of T’s famous master runners in the last section of the 1000m to win in 2:49.

A great first two weeks, and we still have lots of athletes preparing for their first races!
