2018 TWA Club Results

Toronto Running club

This year marks the start of the 4th year of Toronto West Athletics! Our club continues to grow and is well recognized at the provincial and national level thanks to the efforts and abilities of our athletes and coaches.

The accomplishments of our athletes are too numerous to list. They have achieved personal bests, set club records, medaled at OFSAA, and have taken home hardware from provincial, national, and international events. Athletes have made provincial and national teams in track and cross country. The athletes’ achievements have been well documented on our Instagram page, which has over 900 followers, we hope you follow us @TorontoWestAthletics. Thank you to Jill Cameron who is the person responsible for over 98% of our 1426 posts on Instagram and who is also our club president, high-school coach, and club photographer.

We are pleased to announce that the World Master Cross Country Championships in 2020 will be held in Toronto and that our University/Seniors coach Gary Westgate is the Meet Director. It is part of the World Masters 2020 which also involves all track and field events. It is over 2 weeks long and will involve several thousand athletes from all over the world. The official venues are York, Centennial, and U of T. Toronto West Athletics will be providing support for the 2019 pre-championship meet as well as the championships in 2020.

This summer our MTA coaches (Jim Graham and Warren Ringler) provided our “retired” athletes, Paul Robinson and Nick Carbone, the opportunity to get their coaching feet wet by helping out with the MTA group. If any of our alumni are interested in coaching opportunities please keep in touch!

Each year our high school athletes are recruited by universities in Canada and the United States and this year was no different.  Madeline Smart-Reed went to Queens, Keithan Sivapragasam went to Western and Peter Minbashian to McMaster. They will join the list of university athletes who also compete as Toronto West Athletics members for Athletics Ontario and Athletics Canada events. (Miles, Asad, Jake, Ben, Ehab, Mathieu, Mikaela, Alexandra, Joshua, Marc, Carter, Connor, Andres, and Triphon).

TWAP (Toronto West Athletics Parents)

TWA Parents team

Introducing “It’s a TWAP” (Toronto West Athletics Parents @torontowestathletics). 8 parents ran the Ragnar Cottage Country Trail Relay. ~200km run in ~8km legs, 3 per 8 team members. As a team with a fast seed time, they started with the last wave of teams at 4:30. With some impressive racing, they finished in 19:59:57, first masters team and 6th overall!  Trail running in the dark with headlamps takes some getting used to! Great to have the kids out cheering on the parents for a change.

Shoutout to Catherine and Warren Ringler for putting together our team and leading the way! Great racing by our entire team! Till next time.

Thank you to our Ragnar team volunteer Wendy! She didn’t sleep, cheered on every racer, and helped Ragnar with medal distribution!
