One of the main focus points of the season is the regionals,-the last step before OFSAA.
Competing in the Metro Toronto Regional and the South Regional (Mississauga all the way down to Niagara) these regionals contain huge populations and therefore finishing in the top 4 is a great accomplishment.
Toronto West athletes had excellent results at both regionals.
Metro Results.
The highlight was Daniel Rosen’s win in the 2000m steeplechase with new Metro and club records.
Daniel made steady progress over 4 years culminating with this impressive win. He added a strong 2nd in the 3k to advance to Ofsaa in two events.
Our other Metro Champion was rising star Sophia Bowe in the Novice 3k. Once again followed very closely by Grace Cousineau in 2nd, these girls are highly ranked moving into Ofsaa. They also both qualified in the 1500m, finishing 2nd and 4th.
Arguably the best race of the meet was the junior girls 1500m, with Sophie Coutts of CTAC out leaning Sophia Lucki by .06 , both girls running provincial leading times. Rematch next week!
Sophia was also 2nd in the 800m, as was Kayla Sanderson Kirby in the Novice Girls 800.
Isabel Raymond and Hannah Fraser both qualified, finishing 4th in the Sr and Jr 3ks respectively.
There were many other great performances, like Avery’s 6th in Jr 400, Alexander’s new personal best in the Jr 1500 and Julian’s breakthrough in the 800, making these boys hungry to try again next year!
South Region Results.
Our Regional Champion was Ben Miske in the 2k steeplechase, with an easy win. Ben also qualified in the 3k with a new personal best, just slightly over 9:00 and t
hus he is ready for the 9:00 barrier next week.
Lauren set a new club record in the 400m, qualifying 3rd, and finishing 2nd at 800 the next day.
Ivan qualified in both 800 and 1500m, and is returning to OFSAA after close misses last year.
Justin Jelaca ran 2 solid races, qualifying at both 800 and 1500m in Junior.
Jose Castro continued his strong season, qualifying in both 1500m and 3k in Senior boys.
Next week we will be in Guelph Thursday, Friday and Saturday for OFSAA. Hope to see you there!
